How to repair hobbystar brushless motor

Hello Hobby friend:
May be we are very poor, our old brushkess motor was broken, we have no money to order a new one.
so we start to learn repair brushless motor.

Tuning the Reverse-Thrust Function on a Hobbywing ESC

The exact steps depend on which ESC series you have. Hobbywing implements "reverse thrust" in two distinct contexts: aircraft ESCs (SkyWalker V2, etc.) where it's a true reverse-thrust/braking feature for landing, and car ESCs (XeRun, EzRun, QuicRun) where it's the vehicle's reverse gear. Here's how to tune both.

1. Aircraft ESC — Reverse Thrust (e.g. SkyWalker V2)

The SkyWalker V2 series offers three brake modes, set via the LED program box or transmitter programming menu:

表格

Brake Mode Behavior
No Brake (default) Motor freewheels when throttle is cut
Reverse Brake Motor reverses briefly to slow the plane on landing
Linear Reverse Brake Proportional reverse thrust controlled by a separate channel

Key tuning points

  • Linear reverse brake requires the yellow brake wire plugged into a spare receiver channel. The signal range must match the throttle range. If this wire is missing and the mode is set to linear reverse brake, the ESC will refuse to arm (emits "哔 -、哔 -、哔 -" warning).Hobbywing
  • 0–50% of that channel = normal motor direction; 50–100% = reverse direction.Manuals+
  • In normal brake mode, brake force is adjustable as a percentage.
  • 3D aerobatic flying: Hobbywing recommends turning reverse thrust off (set to No Brake) to avoid accidental reversal.Hobbywing

How to change it

  1. Connect the LED program box to the ESC's programming port (white/red/black JR cable, polarity matched to - + S).
  2. Power on the ESC — all parameters appear on the box.
  3. Use ITEM / VALUE buttons to navigate to the brake mode setting, select your desired mode, then press OK to save.Hobbywing
  4. Alternatively, enter the transmitter programming menu by holding the throttle at a specific position during power-up (see your model's manual for the beep-code sequence).

2. Car ESC — Reverse Function (XeRun / EzRun / QuicRun)

Two parameters control reverse behavior:

1A — Running Mode

  • Forward with Brake: Race mode — no reverse at all.
  • Forward / Reverse with Brake ("training mode"): First push past neutral = brake only. The car reverses only after the motor has fully stopped and you return to neutral then push again (double-click method). This prevents accidental reverse while driving.Manuals+
  • Forward and Reverse: Immediate reverse when you push the trigger past neutral (for crawlers/special vehicles).

1B — Max Reverse Force

  • Adjustable in 25% / 50% / 75% / 100% steps.
  • Hobbywing recommends a low value for safety and drivetrain protection.Manuals+

Troubleshooting: car won't reverse

  1. Recalibrate the throttle neutral point — if neutral sits inside the brake zone, reverse won't engage.
  2. Confirm Running Mode is set to Fwd/Rev with Brk or Fwd and Reverse, not Forward with Brake.
  3. If the motor runs backward when you apply forward throttle, change the Motor Rotation (1I) parameter from CW to CCW or vice versa — don't swap motor wires on a sensored ESC.Hobbywing

Quick checklist before tuning

  1. Remove the pinion gear or lift the wheels/prop off the ground before programming.
  2. Calibrate the throttle range first (neutral → full forward → full reverse/brake endpoints) so the ESC knows where neutral actually is.
  3. Set reverse force low initially, then increase only as needed.
  4. For aircraft linear reverse thrust, don't forget the yellow brake wire to a spare channel.
